Interrobang completes catalogs for Nova Natural Toys & Crafts

Interrobang has completed Nova Natural Toys + Crafts' 2009 Main and Mini catalogs. The Mini is inserted into Mothering magazine's November-December issue which features the Best Natural Toy's 2008. Parallel with the catalog designs, Interrobang worked with Nova to redesign the company's identity.

Nova Natural Toys + Crafts, LLC is a family owned business and retailer of finely crafted natural products geared to supporting creative and wholesome living. Nova strives to provide sustainable and organically produced products to families who are actively “going green”; taking an all-natural approach to their environment and the products they purchase.

Mark Sylvester invited to 2009 National Design Awards Nominating Committee

Mark Sylvester has been invited by the Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum to become a member of the nominating committee for the 2009 National Design Awards. The nominating committee is composed of leading designers, educators, journalists, patrons, and curators from all 50 states. The National Design Awards are comprised of six design categories, Architecture, Communications, Fashion, Interiors, Landscape and Product Design. Additionally there are two Achievement Awards, Corporate, Lifetime and the Design Mind Award. Sylvester was on the 2008 NDA Nominating Committee.

Interrobang volunteering design services for OneRichmond

Interrobang has been invited to act as consultant design studio to OneRichmond, a non-profit group dedicated to assisting the small businesses of Richmond, VT to prepare for and weather the impending Bridge Street Bridge renovation. The group is composed of local artists, business people, marketing, public relations, web development, and video production professionals.

Interrobang has completed the identity for the group, as well as Design Guidelines for the roll-out of the program.

Mark Sylvester teaching Publication Workshop at CCS

Mark Sylvester is teaching the Design projects section of the Fall 2008 Publication Workshop at the Center for Cartoon Studies in White River Junction, VT. The first-year students will explore basic design principals, typography, and sketching techniques Through lectures, practicums, and assigned projects.

Center for Cartoon Studies (CCS) offers a two-year course of study that centers on the creation and dissemination of comics, graphic novels and other manifestations of the visual narrative. Experienced and internationally recognized cartoonists, writers, and designers teach classes.

Interrobang receives Gold and Silver Create Awards for White-Packert Photography projects.


Mark Sylvester has received a 2008 Gold and Silver Create Award for two promotional projects produced for Boston's White-Packert Photography. A series of 15 postcards received the Gold award. The postcards, featuring images from both Sharon White and Robert Packert, are mailed as a set of 5 and are perforated for easy separation and individual mailing. 5 o'clock... Chicken, a 36-page full color, hard cover book of photographs taken by Packert received the Silver award. Sylvester designed the book and also acted as copywriter on the project. White-Packert and Interrobang have worked together for the past decade on client and personal projects for their respective studios and joint clientele. The book was produced by Fastbackbooks of New York.

The Create Awards is one of the top competitions for working creative professionals across the nation and is open to all creative professionals and students working in advertising, film and video, motion graphics, graphic communication, photography, printing, interactive media, and copywriting. The competition spans eight industries and includes more than 300 categories.

The projects will be on display at Create Chaos 2008, a five-day creative industry destination event produced to inform, inspire, educate, and connect creative professionals across industries through an all-inclusive event at the Orlando World Center Resort Marriott in Orlando, FL.

White-Packert Photography '5 o'clock... Chicken' book to be included in Creativity 38

5 o'clock... Chicken, a 36-page full color, hard cover book of photographs taken by Boston-based photographer Robert Packert will be included in Creativity 38, to be published by Harper Collins Publishing. Mark Sylvester designed the book and also acted as copywriter on the project. Packert and Sylvester have worked together for the past decade on client and personal projects for their respective studios and joint clientele. The book was produced by Fastbackbooks of New York.

First launched in 1970, the Creativity Awards is one the most esteemed graphic design competitions. The annual competition receives thousands of international entries each year, and culminates with the publication of the Creativity Annual, a 400 page, full color hard cover book to be published Summer 2009.

Hope for Women, based in Burlington, VT, has asked Interrobang to develop retail packaging, point-of-sale displays and brand elements for their emerging line of Colombian Fair Trade, sustainable natural products.

Mark Sylvester art directs Circus shoot in Boxford, Massachusetts

Mark Sylvester was asked by Bob Packert and Sharon White to art direct a Circus-themed photoshoot for client Michael Albor, owner of the Loft Salon and Day Spa in Boston, Massachusetts. The images will be used for The Loft's PR campaigns, as promotional imagery for the models, stylists and make-up artists, and a more elaborate, to-be-determined collaborative project for White-Packert Photography and Interrobang.

Interrobang completes Apparel Detail Trims for Isis for Women

Interrobang has just completed a series of zipper and pocket pulls for Isis for Women's 2009 outerwear line, as well as molded cuff tabs, internal woven labels and patterned zipper tape. Coloration was based on the company's 2009 palette. Interrobang also designed the 3D forms for the pulls based on close consultation with Isis' VP of Creative and Design, Poppy Gall.

Interrobang completes retail packaging system for Kom-Tech

Interrobang has completed a retail packaging system for Kom-Tech, the technical product division of Kombi, Ltd. in Essex Junction, Vermont. Multiple packaging solutions for the Kom-Tech branded X-Cap comprise header cards, pull cards, and clamshell containers. Trade show signage, order forms, and sell sheets were also designed to support the roll-out of this product family to the Kombi Sales force and their retailers. OEM versions of the packaging and product have also been developed for private label retailers.

Mark Sylvester delivers Paul Rand lecture at Center for Cartoon Studies

Mark Sylvester delivered a design history lecture on legendary American graphic designer Paul Rand. The lecture covered Rand's formative influences, his contemporaries, his early work in magazine design, his groundbreaking corporate identity work for ABC, IBM, Cummins Engine Co. and his influence as a Professor of Graphic Design at Yale University.

Interrobang Design is celebrating its tenth year in business. Mark and Lisa Sylvester formed Interrobang Design Collaborative in November, 1997.
